It's Monday Here What I've Been Reading

Monday, August 15, 2011
It's Monday, What Are you Reading is a weekly  meme hosted by Shelia @ One Person's Journey Through a World of Books where I  answer the question, "What are you reading?"

This Monday marks the official first day of school, and for the last couple of weeks between making preparations for this day, and trying to finish up all my summer projects I have been a bit distracted from spending much time on the blog. I have been reading, but even that has taken a back seat, but I am hoping once I settle back into my daily routine that I will also be back to reading and blogging on a daily basis.

Books Read:

Ashfall by Mike Mullen

A highly enjoyable dystopian novel that felt like the real deal. Told from a male POV I loved Alex and was rooting for him all the way!

Fairy Bad Day by Amanda Ashby

Not my favorite read of the bunch but still a cute and often funny take on the things that go bump in the night.

Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson

Everything you have heard about this one is true. The road trip is awesome and Amy is my new best friend. I would also take a road trip with Roger any day and hate for it to end.

Eon Dragoneye Reborn by Alison Goodman

I fell in love with this epic tale of a young girl forced to become a boy in order to become a dragonseye. The Chinese mythology and lore is amazing and all the characters are phenomenal.

Currently Reading/ Listening to:

Eona The Last Dragoneye by Alison Goodman

A very exciting sequel to Eon Dragoneye Reborn. Eona is a marvelous character and the action is nonstop.

The Help by Kathren Stockett

I have been wanting to see this movie, but decided to read the book first. Although not my normal genre, I am enjoying it a lot.

So that's what I have been up to for the last couple weeks. What are you reading?

Time for another Monday's  meme with Shelia @ One Person's Journey Through a World of Books where I get to answer the question, "What are you reading?"

Last week marked my first full week of summer vacation. The weather here in the Midwest has been sweltering and it looks like summer has arrived ahead of schedule.  With such heat it is easy to stay home in the air-conditioning and try putting a dent in my overly crowded TBR pile.

Books Read/Listened to/Reviewed

The Last Thing I Remember by Andrew Klavan

Exciting and action-packed this is one being considered for the 2012 Book Battle list. It is the first in a series and left a lot of unanswered questions.

Liar Society by Lisa and Laura Roecker

Fantastic mystery with wonderful characters and plot. A must read for anyone who enjoys trying to figure out whodunit.
Angel Fire by Courtney Allison Moulton

The first book in a series about demons and angels. Lots of action, vivid fight scenes, and the hint of romance. Characterization however,  a bit flat.

The Cupcake Queen by Heather Hepler

Very charming story dealing with lots of teen issues. Loved the writing and the characters. This book is also being considered for the 2012 Book Battle list.
Tiger's Curse by Colleen Houck (Audio)

Awesome book. Loved, loved, loved the plot, characters and setting. A must read if you enjoy mythology and folklore, action, suspense and romantic tension.

Tiger's Quest by Collen Houck

The second book continues the character's struggles to find a way to break a 300 year old curse. Sets up a romantic triangle and takes us to Shangri-la. Ends with a cliff hanger that has me anxious to read the next book.
The Shifter by Janice Hardy

Another 2012 Book Battle nominee with a very interesting plot and characters. A little difficult to get into at first as the author world builds, but has a lot of action and is a great start to a new middle school series.

So that is what I have been reading this week. What did you read?

Its Monday Here's What I'm Reading

Time for another Monday's  meme with Shelia @ One Person's Journey Through a World of Books where I get to answer the question, "What are you reading?"

Seven more days and school is out. Last week was a busy one as May is a month of lots of field trips and late night activities. Unfortunately my blog is suffering right now  from lack of attention as I finish up the school year and try to maintain my students' interest in learning.

However I did manage to read some amazing books and will hopefully get some reviews posted later this week.

Books Read:

The Undertakers: Rise of the Corpses by Ty Draco

Amazing middle school fiction that kept me glued to the page and excited to read more from this debut author in YA

Divergent by Veronica Roth

Definitely a deliciously original dystopian and everything that I had heard about it is true. Loved it!

Liar Society by Lisa and Laura Roecker

Mystery, intrigue, and a fantastic character, I breezed through this one in one day and enjoyed every moment.

The Gathering by Kelly Armstrong (Audio)

As soon as I  finished this one I went looking to see when the sequel would be coming out. Sadly, I couldn't find any info on the next in this series. All I can say is I will be anxiously awaiting the next book and hope Armstrong writes fast!

Currently Listening to:

Stork by Wendy Deisol

This is a reread (listen) as I totally enjoyed the Icelandic mythology and the mystery and was a few days shy of being able to purchase my next audio book from Audible. I can honestly say that the second time around is as good as the first.

Up Next:

Tiger Curse by Colleen Houch (audio)

Looking forward to getting into this one.

Time for another Monday's  meme with Shelia @ One Person's Journey Through a World of Books where I get to answer the question, "What are you reading?"

Books read:

Walk the Wild Road by Nigel Hinton

A historical fiction based on the author's family about a boy in 1870 Poland who is forced to leave his family and hopes to go to America. It is a book that had me captivated and running the gamut of emotions as I rooted for the main character.

Son of Eden by Brianna J Merrill

An angel story that I had a difficult time staying engaged with.
Candor by  Pam Bachorz

This was a very interesting dystopian novel about subliminal  messages and reminded me a little of the Stepford Wives for teens.

Currently Reading/Listening to:

City of Fallen Angels (audio) by Cassandra Clare

I am enjoying learning more about Simon and trying to figure out just what is going on. As with all the Mortal Instruments lots of intrigue and action.

Jane by April Linder

Absolutely loving this and had a hard time putting it down last night. Cannot wait to finish it.

So what have you been reading!

It's been a couple weeks since I have done a Monday meme. Things have been rather busy what with spring, end of school just around the corner, and a bit of a reading slump, culminating in less reading that I would like.

Books read/reviewed:

Songs for a Teenage Nomad by Kim Culbertson

Time for another Monday's  meme with Shelia @ One Person's Journey Through a World of Books where I get to answer the question, "What are you reading?"

I am beginning to sound like a broken record come Monday as I am definitely going through a reading slump. Mostly because life seems to be intruding on my reading time (sort of). Last week was parent/teacher conferences and while I did have an extra day off, the weekend once again was filled with visits with my dad and grandchildren. For those of you who have little ones at home, and manage to still read loads of books, I am awed. I watched two of my boys this weekend and was so exhausted when their mother picked them up that I felt like I had just done a double shift. Whew! Now I know why we have our children when we are young.

Books read:

Prom and Prejudice by Elizabeth Eulberg

I bought this at the school book fair last week and read it Friday morning. Very cute and a quick read. Also my first retelling of a classic to modern tale. It was definitely a fun read.

Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning (audio)

It's official, I am now a fan of this series (and I have Natalie at Mindful Musings to thank for getting me hooked) Very dark and exciting tale of the fae, I am loving Mac's southern charm and Barren's engimatic personality. As soon as I finished this first book I immediately started book #2).

Another slow week for me. My grandson Reece came and spent Saturday  with me, which  took much of my reading time. While he is just happy to hang out with me, that does not include having grandma's nose in a book. Still I am glad he came and we had a good time watching some movies and challenging each other on various video games, (which he won of course).

Books I did read this week:

Sellout by Ebony Joy Wilkins

A 2010 debut novel, I have been wanting to read this one for a while. While I did enjoy the story, and feel it will be a good addition to my classroom, I was not extremely impressed with the characters.

Griffin Rising by Darby Karchut

A very interesting and different story about angels. Lots of background on the different types of angels, with a strong focus on characterization. The protagonist is an angel in training.  Review to come.

Scorch Trials by James Dashner (audio)

Oh my goodness, this second book in Dashner's series is incredible! Even better than the Maze Runner and that is saying a lot. Now I am on pins and needle wanting to find out more.

Just couldn't seem to get into the books I picked up this week. So I think it might be official; I am in a winter slump. Hopefully, this will pass quickly.

Books Read:

Jack: Secret Vengeance by F. Paul Wilson

A little slow to start, but once it did it held my attention, and I really like the setting, which offers up some mysteries, and seemed quite alive.

The Lover's Dictionary by David Levithan

A fast read told in snippets of events in the life of two people's love affair. It holds some very interesting truths for everyone who has ever been or is still in love.

Well, I guess we all have them...one of those weeks that no matter how hard you try you can't seem to get much accomplished and this was definitely mine.

Books read:

Leverage by Tom Cohen

This was a very intense read dealing with high school sports, steroids, and bullying.

The Strange Case of Origami Yoda by  Tom Angelberger

Cybils winner for 2010 Middle School Fiction. My thoughts and review will be posted later today.

This was a very unique historical fiction that spanned from the 1800's to World War II

Sean's Griswold's Head by Lindsey Leavitt

Funny and cute this one dealt with issues of trust and acceptance of the things we have no control over.

City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare  (audio)

Love this series and really enjoyed the audio version. As soon as I finished this one I download the third book.

With only a two -day week last week and more than enough snow, I managed to read more than my usual amount of books again. With more snow in the forecast, who knows I might even be off a few days again this week. Only problems is when the weather turns nice we will be making up these days.

Books Read:

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

So I have joined the love of rest of the blogosphere on  this one. Definitely a charming and unique YA romance.

Born at Midnight by C. C Hunter

A debut novel that surprised me with its different take on vamp.s werewolves, fairies, and witches, and a great start to a new series too.

Fall For Anything by Courtney Summers

A story of grief written in some of the most beautiful prose I have read in a while. I couldn't stop writing down quotes from the book.

Summer: Beautiful Dead by Eden Maquire

The third book in this series of a young girl devastated by the lost of her love only to be reconnected with him in the after life for short periods of time while she helps other beautiful dead find answers to their deaths so they can move on.
