National Library Week begins April 11, and runs through April 17, and this April is also School Libraries Month 25th anniversary. This years Honorary Chair for the week long event is Author Neil Gaiman.
Since I began blogging I have become a library patron again. As a kid I went to the library once a week to check out books. It was an adventure that was the highlight of my week because I got to walk there with my friends and stop at the Ben Franklin's (what was called a dime store way back then) and order a cherry coke from their fountain and french fries, before heading home with my loot.
When I moved last year I found that I was very close to a library and have been visiting it every two weeks to help curb the expense of buying books. The place is always busy and filled with kids and adults.
Our main branch in St Louis also frequently holds author talks. I got to see Riddley Pearson and am planning on going to hear Melissa Mar this month. These talks are free and open to the public.
Finally, I am a huge supporter of the school library. I am extremely lucky to have a wonderful school librarian who works hard to support teachers and students reach their academic goals throughout the year.
