My Book Boyfriend

Wednesday, June 8, 2011
My Book Boyfriend is a weekly feature hosted by Missie at The Unread Reader allowing us to bring to life some of the most amazing men we can find between the covers of our books.

This week I have fallen deeply in love (and lust) with Prince Dhiren (Ren) from Tiger's Curse and Tiger's Quest by Colleen Houck.

Ren is over 300 years old but looks 20. After a curse turned him into a white tiger he has spent most of those years in captivity until Kelsey comes into his life. Kelsey becomes quite enthralled with the tiger and agrees to travel to India thinking she is taking him to a reserve and freedom.

Kelsey first finds out the truth when Ren morphs into the man:

I saw a handsome young man standing directly behind me ... he was taller than me by a head and had a strong, well-developed trim body that was clothed in loose white cotton garment. His long-sleeved shirt was untucked and carelessly buttoned, revealing a smooth well-built golden bronze chest ... glossy black hair swept away from his face and curled slightly at the nape of his neck. His eyes were what riveted me the most. They were  my tiger's eyes the same deep cobalt blue ... He had full lips, a square jaw, and an aristocratic nose. He didn't look like any other man I'd ever seen. I couldn't place it, but there was something else, something cultured about him. He exuded confidence, strength and nobility ... He was as beautiful a man as he was a tiger.

He smelled wonderful, like waterfalls and woods mixed together

His eyes turned to my face. He smiled and reached a hand up to touch my cheek. My pulse quickened and my face felt hot where he touched it. I became suddenly aware that my fingers were still twined in his hair, and my hand was resting on his chest. I quickly removed them and twisted them in my lap. He sat up slightly, leaning on on hand which brought his beautiful face very close to mine. His fingers moved down to my chin and, with the lightest touch, he tilted my face so my eyes met his intense blue eyes.

The touch was sweet, hesitant, and careful, the way you might try to touch a frightened doe. His face was full of wonder and awareness. I quivered. he paused just a moment more, then smiled tenderly, dipped his head, and brushed his lips lightly against mine. He kissed me softly, tentatively, just a mere whisper of a kiss. His other hand slid down to my waist too... He gently pulled me closer and pressed me lightly against his chest I gripped his arms. He sighed with pleasure, and deepened the kiss.

There are many different types of kisses. There's a passionate kiss of farewell like the kind Rhett gave Scarlett when he went off to war. The kiss of I-can't-be-with-you-but-I want-to-be---like Superman and Lois lane, There's the first kiss---one that is gentle and hesitant, warm and vulnerable. Then there's he kiss of possession---which was how Ren kissed me now.

It went beyond passion, beyond desire. His kiss was full of longing, need, and love, like all those other kisses. But, it was also filled with promises and pledges, some of which seemed sweet and tender while others seemed dangerous and exciting. Ren was taking me over like he was staking a claim.

Even though Hrithik Roshan doesn't have the cobalt blue eyes Ren does, he has all the rest of Ren's features and if Ren was ever brought to life on the screen Hrithik with the aid of some blue contacts Hrithik definitely has he right stuff!

So how do you like Ren?

My Book Boyfriend: Jerricho Barrons
from Karen Marie Moning's Fever Series

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

My Book Boyfriend is a weekly meme where I get a chance to talk about the guys I think are swoon worthy using quotes and stats from the book. The meme is hosted by Missie at The Unread Reader.

Today I have a very unusual swoon worthy guy to present. I am pretty sure many of  you would not find  Jericho Barrons from Karen Marie Moning's Fever series the kinda man you'd bring home to your family, but I like living on the wild side and you cannot get any wilder than Barrons.

He didn't just occupy space; he saturated it. The room had been full of books before, now it was full of him. About thirty, six foot two or three, he had dark hair, golden skin, and dark eyes. His features were strong, chiseled. I couldn't pinpoint his nationality any more than I could his accent; some kind of European crossed with Old World Mediterranean or maybe an ancestor with dark Gypsy blood. He word an elegant dark gray Italian suit, a crisp white shirt, and a muted patterned tile. He wasn't handsome. That was too calm a word. He was intensely masculine. He was sexual. He attracted. There was an omni-present carnality about him, in his dark eyes, in his full mouth, in the way he stood.

Throughout the series Barrons is a complete enigma. We are never sure of his loyalties. But his possessive and protective nature with Mac was something I felt drawn to despite his dark side.  He is a man who loves the finer things in life and always has the best of everything...cars, clothes, furnishings. And he rarely lets his guard down except with Mac and when this happens his true nature is revealed especially where his love is concerned.

He dances with me. We shout the lyrics at each other. Something about seeing this man, this big sexual, powerful ---and, some part of me knows, highly dangerous and unpredictable --- man, dancing nude, shouting that he's never going to be kept down, completely undoes me.

As dangerous and even as animalistic as Barron's is, and for all his posturing about being the antihero, Jericho's intensity for life and love is the real reason I find him irresistible.

"I didn't get the spell." My voice broke. I'd failed him. I hated myself for that. He'd never failed me.
"I know."
My gaze flicked to his face, bewildered. "You . . . know?"
"I knew it was a lie the moment you you said it."
I searched his eyes. "But you looked happy! You smiled. I saw things in your eyes!"
"I was happy. I knew why you'd lied." His dark gaze was ancient, inhuman, and uncharacteristically gently. Because you love me.

Despite the fact that I usually do not go for the bad boy type...  Jericho Barron's is, as far as I am concerned, the type of man worthy of my complete and total swoon (and model Brian Carson isn't too bad either).

My Book Boyfriend #1

Wednesday, March 2, 2011
A few weeks ago I found this new Wednesday meme hosted by Missie @ The Unread Reader that got me all hot and bothered and decided that I  definitely wanted to participate.

My Book Boyfriend is where you talk about your literary crush (yeah we all have them even an old fart like me). In your post, make sure you include your book boyfriend's stats, a picture of what you imagine he looks like and some quotes from him that had you at hello. Credit the book and please include page numbers when you can.

So I would like to present my very first Book Boyfriend  crush

PO
from Graceling by Kristin Cashore

Po is a Lienid Prince who is Graced. He is tall has dark hair, and one silver and one gold eye. He is playful, smooth in his movements like a cat, and while Katsa also describes him as cocky and arrogant, she only believes this because she doesn't know a lot about him or his Grace.

The reason for my crush on PO is that because of his Grace, the ability to know what someone is thinking especially if those thoughts are about him, I think he would make the perfect partner. I mean who wouldn't love to have a guy who could anticipate your wants and desires and be so attuned to you that you really would never truly have to ask for anything, or explain how you were feeling. Think of all the mind games you wouldn't have play!

"He knew, without her telling him the things she did want to do."

"They had entire conversations in which she didn't say a word, for PO could sense when Katsa desired to talk to him."

Because of his Grace he was an expert fighter too, and he hones his fighting ability, being the youngest of seven brothers. Consequently, I see him as having a nice build.

And because he is very sure of himself I know that his smile is always playful and his countenance would always hold a certain calmness. His self-assured also means he never feels threatened by a women's ability.

"I know you're teasing me. And you should know I'm not easily humiliated. You may hunt for my food, and pound me every time  we fight, and protect me when we're attacked, if you like. I'll thank you for it."

Can't imagine Po ever having a problem asking for directions, or helping out around the house?

But most of all Po willingly accepts that loving another means not having to change them.

"I'll give myself to you however you'll take me."

Sadly all the qualities I find so appealing in Po would also make him totally loyal to the woman he loves, which is Katsa, and she is one lady I would not want to fight with over a guy.

Ah but I can dream!  So who are you dreaming of?
