It's Monday, Here's What I'm Reading

Monday, January 4, 2010

Last week was a good week for reading, and I am sorry in a way that I will be returning to work this week, because it will  but greatly curtail my reading habit. As satisfied as I am with my accomplishments last week, I can't brag too much since J. Kaye who is the creator of the It's Monday What Are You Reading? read almost as many books as I did and and has been posting her fingers off too. Check out her challenges and her giveaways and you will see what I mean.

Anyway, last week I finished and reviewed White Gates by Bonnie Gates. This books is a 2010-2011 Truman Award nominee and offers a modern day mystery complete with a curse. I also finished and reviewed the third book in the immortals series by Alyson Noel, Shadowland. While I really like Evermore and Blue Moon, Shadowland annoyed me, not enough to abandon it, but enough to hope that the next book in the series will offer more character growth and plot development. The third book I finished and reviewed Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson was by far the best I read this week. I loved Anderson protagonist, Isabel, and I can't wait to read the sequel Forge when it comes out. This is definitely a book I will be recommending for next year's Book Battle, and I can see why it made the MASL's Truman Award nomination for 2010/2011. Jinx by Meg Cabot was the another book I completed. I have always been a huge fan of Cabot. I love her humor and frequently find myself laughing out loud when I read her books. Even though Jinx wasn't a LOL for me I did like the protagonist and wish Cabot would write another book about her. I finished off my week with Michael Harmon's Last Exit to Normal, which turned out to be a pleasant surprise. I really admire the realistic way Harmon dealt with the issue of gay relationships and how it affects others. I hope to post a review for this book in the next day of two.

There's another book after Shadowland? For some reason I thought it was a trilogy. Guess I was wrong!
