It's Monday Here's What I'm Reading

Monday, January 10, 2011
Another Monday and another Monday meme with Shelia @ One Person's Journey Through a World of Books fun Monday meme.

Last week was my first back to school after winter break and while I thankfully had little grading to do (always a plus) it was one of those weeks that pulled me every which way but into my  comfy reading chair.

A lot of my spare time was spent car shopping with my son, who totaled  out his truck. Thankfully he walked away for the accident without damage; the truck was not so lucky.

This weekend I spent one whole day rereading books on the 2011 Area Wide Book Battle list writing questions as I read. Although the competition isn't until May, the questions have to be organized and perused and that is usually done in January. Each member of the committee reads several of the 20 book on the list and creates questions that will be used in the competition. I still had five books that I had not written questions for, thus my need to reread.

Books reread for Book Battle:

Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Jump the Cracks by Stacy DeKeyser
Middleworld by J&P Voelkel
Maze Runner by James Dashner
Seer of Shadows by Avi

Books Read for Reviews:

Demon Tapper's Daughter by Jana Oliver

The first book in a fabulous new paranormal series. It has the feel of a dystopian novel, which I loved, and terrific characterization with a plot that had me shaking my head and thinking "this is exactly why I love paranormal books."

Reviews and other Noteworthy Posts:

Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly

This is an amazing historical fiction that blew me away with its story. If you have not read it then make a point to do so. You will not be disappointed!

Patch by Munchan Njaga

Another story that had me reading nonstop. I have already put this on the next Book Battle list as a book to be considered. The bullying theme makes this a very important for teens.

The Long Weekend by Savita Kalhan

An extremely intense and creepy read. Also an important read for tweens as it delves into abduction.

Currently Reading/Listening To:

Soulless by Gail Carringer (audio version)

Oh my gracious! This book has me completely and utterly in love with the Steampunk genre. Being a total word geek, I am all a flutter listening (and grabbing a dictionary) to this one of a kind tale of Ms. Tarabotti, the soulless spinster. I am halfway through and I must tell you (in strictest confidence) that the kiss scene is totally blush worthy! The vivid descriptions have me living in Victorian England each time I listen.

Almost forgot. The winner of my  Real Mermaids Don't Wear Toe Rings  by Hélène Boudreau Giveaway  is...

Melissa was chosen by Random .org and an email has been sent to her letting her know of the win. Thanks for everyone who left a comment on the post.

If you didn't get a chance to read  Hélène Boudreau's awesome post on fictional dad's check it out.

So that was my week. What are you reading?

I really enjoyed Soulless too. The language is great fun, especially that of the gay vampire, the Duke (or so) - he was great!

I'm reading my TBR pile this month and, as it is just one shelf, I can see some space already!

Ooh, The Long Weekend grabbed my attention...hope you like it.

When you were talking about your son's totaled truck, I was reminded of my daughter who always (as a teen) managed to wreck her cars. And it was never her fault! Luckily, she only had minor injuries.

Now that she's in her thirties, she hasn't had one in awhile...but I don't like to ride with her! LOL

Thanks for visiting my blog.

Your weeks are always so busy Jan! So glad your son is okay after totaling his car, that's a blessing.

I can't wait to read the Gail Carriger series, everyone is raving about it and steampunk is a genre that's quickly growing on me:)

Congrats to Melissa as well!
