Book Blogger Hop and Follow Me Friday

Friday, November 12, 2010
It's been a long time since I did the Blogger Hop (summer I think) mainly because I usually do not have the time to hop around on Fridays and check out all the lovely blogs I already enjoy and the new ones I have yet to discover. But I decided to join in the fun today. This lovely meme was created by Jennifer at Crazy for Books  and  if you want to join in on the fun go check out Jennifer's blog. Also,  if I don't get to your blog today, I will be stopping by tomorrow for sure!

Today's question:

"If you find a book that looks interesting but is part of a series, do you always start with the first title?"

I suppose I am a bit anal about needing to start the first book of a series. Sadly, I have missed out on quite a few series this way. When I first started blogging last year I kept hearing about the Sookie Stackhouse series and the Blue Bloods series and unfortunately, I was too far behind to catch up on them. Also my students really love the Bluford High series, which I have never read either, but because they continually  read them I recently purchased all of them and hope to get them read so I know what all the fuss is about.

I also decided to join Rachel's Friday meme Follow Me. This is a first for me. Check out her lovely blog at Parajunkee for all the details on how to participate. This week Jackie at  Insane Hussein another lovely blog you should definitely check out asked the question:

"What is you usual monthly budget?"

To be quite honest, my book budget is non-existent and totally out of control. I see a book I want and off to Amazon or Book Depository I go. I stop at a store and if it sells book, I am drawn like a magnet to those shelves and rarely come away without picking up one, two, or more. I do, however, have a completely rational justification for my addiction.  After reading the books I buy, I take most of them to my students so they too can read them.

OK, I am off to find out what the rest of you lovely bloggers have said about your book budgets and how you handle series. See ya soon!

Hi
Thanks for stopping by at my blog. Following you back. :D
I started with book 4 on the Sookie Stackhouse series and I was hooked. Though I'll confess I did skip some part of it. lolz.
But it's a good read. I highly recommend it.
I haven't started Blue Bloods yet though. But it's on my TBR. I'll get to it. Someday. Hopefully! ;)

Hi, Jan!!

I try to use the library more, because I seem to want every book I see, too. It is a disease! No cure, either!

Have a great weekend!

Thanks for stopping by. If you have students you can share books with then spending lots on books is ok in my book!

Hey...old follower. I'm with you, no budget. The Old Man doesn't like too much!

Hope you come by and see my answer!

Happy Friday, Jan! You know, I try to always start series with the first title, but sometimes it doesn't happen. The sign of a great series is when the books can stand alone, in my opinion.

As for a monthly budget...well...I probably should set one, eh? ;)

I'm with you on the book budget! I have a hard time driving by a book store without making a pitstop!! I try to rationalize by saying, "some girls buy purses, shoes, clothes, etc, me - I buy books." Then I don't feel so bad!

Thanks for the follow!

Yup. I'm the same way when it comes to buying books, no self control. LOL

Glad to see you on the hop this week.

Happy FF!

Hey! I'm your newest follower; just stopping by on the hop to wish you a great weekend!

I like to keep my monthly book budget under $100. It's sometimes hard though with so many great books out there so I understand how yours got out of control!

Hopping by. I'm pretty obsessive about starting a series at the beginning too. How could you not be... I've never heard of Blueford High. Interesting.

Hey Jan! Thanks so much for the add! Glad you stopped by.

"To be quite honest, my book budget is non-existent and totally out of control."

This had me erupting in laughter because I feel like that most of the time. I have no set budget, but I can totally blow a bunch of cash on books without thinking about it. lol.

I'm a new follower now! Looking forward to reading your posts!

Hi, Jan! Glad to see you joining in this week!

I find that my book budget is bad during the summer when I'm working and not in college, because I have extra money. That will probably change this next year, though, because I'll be paying for an apartment instead of living at home with my parents in the summer. Oh, well. I have TONS of books on my shelf yet from previous book buying binges, so those should keep me busy for awhile!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Friday,Jan!

New follower here. I’m doing all three of the Friday blog runs. I don’t limit myself to budget with books. I just love to read and write so that line is always doable for me. And Yes, I love start a series at the 1st book.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog! I'm now following you too. ;D
Although it's rare for me to read a series out of order, it has happened before--although this was because I didn't realize it was a series at the time. And my book budget is a bit like that too! I have to keep myself from wandering Amazon or Book Depository--and well, the bookstore isn't a safe place for me either.
Looking forward to seeing more reviews from you and I hope you have a great weekend! <3

Hi, Jan! FF back! <3 My book budget was out of control too so I tried setting a real budget. But I usually break it because books are like BOOKS!! I'd rather spend my money on books than other stuffs. :)

Have a nice weekend!
