WoW with a Twist

Wednesday, April 7, 2010
While I love visiting other blogs on Wednesday to see what everyone is waiting for, I decided to post about a fantastic opportunity for bloggers to share their love of books in a way that will make a huge difference in the lives of young adults who want to read, but do not have the resources to do so.

GLW has teamed up with the Readergirlz, YALSA and If I Can Read, I Can Do Anything, (A national reading club for Native American children) for another book fair event to get books to students enrolled at Ojo Encino Day School and Alchesay High School.

I urge everyone to head over to one of the above blogs and read about this amazing effort, and then open up you pockets and buy a book or books to send to one of the two schools who are WAITING for books to read.

I used GLW booklist at Powells Books (directions to order are located on the GLW blog site) and got to choose for a list of wonderful books wanted by the students at these two schools. It was cool picking out titles I loved knowing that I was giving others a chance to read them too.

I've already placed my order now its your turn.

I found out recently I take books for granted. I was talking to my son's teacher (he's in Gr 2) one day and was shocked to find out that some kids don't have books at home & school/library is their only opportunity to read. Thanks for spreading the word on someting so important!

Those are wonderful programs and groups! It's really inspiring to see people introduce kids to the power of reading. I'm definitely going to check out the links you provided. :)

Thanks for helping to inform people about this!

Operation TBD is a very important event, especially right now, with so many schools letting go of librarians and public libraries closing due to the budget cuts. Thanks for spreading the word Jan!

Thanks so much for taking part and buying books - we really appreciate it!

When you get a chance can you give me a shout and let me know a couple of the books you bought? Some of them are not coming off the wishlists and I want to make sure your order did.

Thanks again........

I'm at work right now, but I'll head over there and see what I can do when I'm at home. Thanks for bringing this to my attention!
