Once Upon A Time Challenge

Thursday, March 25, 2010

While I really don't need to add another challenge to my plate, I have to admit that this one appeals to me in many ways. First, I love fantasy, second, I love folklore, third I love mythology, and last I adore the play Midsummer's Nights Dream. So it is a win win situation.

The challenge is hosted by Stainless Steel Droppings and I adore the banner. The art work is amazing. You can read more about the artist at the host's blog along with the various categories for the challenge.

I will be attempting Quest the Third, which requires me to read five books that fit into fantasy, or folklore, or fairy tales, or mythology…or five books that might be a combination from the four genres. The other requirement for this Quest is to read A Midsummer's Nights Dream. I have loved this play since I was a kid. I actually read it and performed the play when I was in eighth grade. (I played Helena one night and Peter Bottom on another night), what a hoot.

Here a few titles I am considering this challenge.

The Dwarves by Markus Heitz 4/4
The Magician by Leo Grossman
Voices of Dragons by Carrie Vaughn
Princess of Glass by Jessica Day George
A Midsummer's Nights Dream by William Shakespeare 6/19
Lament: The Faerie Queens Deception by Maggie Sticfvater
The Folk Keeper by Franny Billingsley 3/31
Flight of the Dragons by Susan Fletcher
Mira, Mirror by Metie Ivie Harrison
Wabi : A Hero's Tale by Robert Buchac 4/10

If you read a lot of fantasy I would urge to check this challenge out. The challenge runs through June 20 so don't wait too long.

Always intrigued to see what you're up to! Great to see your A to Z book review list by the way - really organizes things. Thanks for commenting on my 2 teens on books interview. So glad you liked it! It is too bad the kids sometimes have to read books that don't engage them - inevitable though.

I thought about signing up for this challenge, but I've signed-up for too many challenges already, so I'll probably skip this one (although I might change my mind). I have an award for you here: http://my-book-obsession.blogspot.com/2010/03/over-top-award.html
